Welcome Home

The Great Australian Dream, to own your own home, is loaded with mixed messages and hypocrisy.

To own your own home is now an unreachable goal for so many who wish to seek refuge and settle in Australia. For low income, no income and those with no intergenerational wealth, home ownership has become a pipedream. I offer these symbolic houses as a site where asylum seekers and refugees can find a shelter from which to build their lives in Australia.

Made using 3D modelling and 3D printing technology Welcome Home is a 21st century welcome lei made with contemporary, materials and techniques. Comprised of hundreds of layers of nylon powder fused together. These layers stacked on each other reference the complex layers of history and meaning of the Great Australian Dream.

I offer this garland of houses as a home where asylum seekers and refugees can find a shelter from which to build their lives in Australia.
